Our media lab at Gurgaon, mlabs, releases an exciting animated movie Dancing On The Wall. The movie is adapted from a story of the same name written by Shamim Padamsee, the director of an educational organization that runs schools in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh. The movie was made with the goal of digitizing popular India folk tales, and creating a series. Unlike most movies produced by Emantras' mlab, which have in-house stories and indigenous art work, this retains the unique properties of the original work.
The film is visually rich and paints an idyllic picture of the serene beauty of an Indian town. The story is centered around a little girl who lives in the Sahyadri hills, home to the Warli people in the state of Maharashtra, India. Little Shirvi is doted on by loving parents, and one day when they go to a nearby market decides to surprise them. Helping her plan her surprise are little "moon people" who land up unexpectedly in her courtyard. How she helps them, and how they help her brighten things up for her family forms the rest of the story. The theme of the book was inspired by Warli paintings that typically feature circular clusters of stick figures performing everyday chores.
Dancing On The Wall is a great way to introduce little children to the vibrant folk traditions of India and other art forms at a very young age.
